Petition Secretary Clinton to Protect Iraqi Christians

Yes, I'd like to receive additional emails from Open Doors.

Two Iraqi Refugees

Dear Secretary Clinton,

I am deeply concerned that the number of Christians in Iraq has decreased from an estimated 850,000 in 1991 to 330,000 today. Thousands have fled Iraq and of the Christians that remain, more than half are internally displaced due to violence and threats against the Christian community by Islamic extremists.

Violence against Christians in Iraq has rapidly escalated in the last several months including the siege against Our Lady of Salvation Cathedral in which 58 were killed and also the recent murder of an elderly Christian couple on December 30th who were killed by a bomb left in front of their house.

I urge you to work with the Iraqi government immediately to form and implement a comprehensive plan of action to protect the dwindling community of Christians in Iraq. I also ask that you ensure the Christian minority are made aware of funds made available to them by the US government and that you take a more pro-active approach to match these funds with needy Christian families and communities.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
